The United Nations
Peace & Strength
Natalie Misetic
The United Nations has not only been the guide to other countries for peace and strength, however they have also real experiences displayed in the viewing area once you walk through security. The room is filled with cultural admiration as well as brutal images of families being tormented due to past dictators and wars. There were a few placements with families from Croatia being forced to leave their homeland because of the break of Yugoslavia. The look of fear and no hope were plastered throughout their faces and the image of their homes being burned down just made the image feel more realistic. One image consisted of an older gentleman who could barely walk, helping his wife and kids carry their bags to wherever they were shipped to. My ancestors could relate to this horror because they went through the exact same thing. Some were killed because they refused to leave their home where they happily grew up. The break of Yugoslavia was an amazing breakthrough because of countries getting to have their own identity and independence. I absolutely loved learning about new cultures in a matter of twenty minutes and hopefully more images relating to peace and hope will be put up for inspiration
Eye-opening

Attending the United Nations excursion had to be a very eye-opening experience. People are always aware of the news and what is going on globally, attending the united nations and seeing the first exhibit we saw. truly sad due to the fact that they showed countless images containing things that the American public is not used to seeing. For example, a picture of little kids between ages 2+ drinking their “daily” beverage that the UNICEF provided for them in refugee camps in Palestine. Even though these images happened in the early 1900s, refugee camps still exist in countries outside of the USA. It truly is eye-opening to see how The United Nations expose pictures from years ago about topics like; world hunger, human rights, independence etc... even though they happened years ago its mind blowing how throughout history how the world has changed in some aspects. I really enjoyed going to see the exhibit at the united nations, its truly a place worth going once in your life. Human Rights

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights exhibit within the United Nations showcased a lot of printed material such as pictures and books all about freedom and everyone being equal. The room was filled and there was so much to read and look at. I believe in all basic human rights and that everyone inherits human rights right as they are born, so seeing this exhibit was very interesting. I hope that mostly everyone has the same opinion as me when it comes to human rights, everyone has the freedom of thought, speech and expression. I am a strong believer when it comes to the human rights laws. Everyone in this world should have the right to work, eat, speak and get an education because no one in this world is born any more superior than another. This hit close to home because my grandma would always talk about the 30 human rights stated in the Universal Declaration because she too was also very passionate about equality and everyone getting the same chance in the world. My favorite part of the exhibit was seeing various forms of pictures and paintings about human rights, especially ones done by little kids. This was a special exhibit that I enjoyed visiting because it was something, I’m really passionate about and it was a nice way for the United Nation to celebrate their 70th anniversary.
