Grand Central
If you have ever been to, or perhaps a resident of New York City, or neither, you probably know that this concrete jungle is one of the busiest cities in the world. Having a full plate is part of being a New Yorker, everything moves so fast, the transportation, people, work, and even time seems to be doing so too. However in the midst of it all, we still stop to communicate. Grand Central is one big melting pot filled with diverse New Yorkers in a hurry and apprehensive tourists with cameras. If I were to choose two characteristics of the culture in terms of communication in Grand Central Terminal, they would have to be questions and meetups. If you can take a moment to take your earbuds out and really listen the surroundings of Grand Central, there are question marks at the end of all these spoken sentences. Questions such as “What time is it?” “Which way to get to …?” “What do you think of Grand Central?” are just a fraction of the questions you will hear about every 10 seconds in Grand Central. Meetups are also popular with the culture of Grand Central, from seeing a long-lost friend after ages or having a big emotional moment, to just a casual meet up for a lunch date, meetups are definitely part of Grand Central’s overall culture. Although this Terminal seems overwhelming at first glance, once you really step in you will see it for what it is. Grand Central Terminal is a place where people connect. Whether you are lost and looking for answers or waiting for a friend this place is infused in connectivity. Next time you are in the city make a stop at Grand Central, experience the culture for yourself and ask a question or find a place to eat nearby and tell a friend to meet you at the terminal.
